Hi, friends! Thanks so much for your support over the last couple weeks about Heartwaves. Itโs been a rough year for me, publishing wise, and I hoped working on this project would help heal some of that, and even though the bookโs not actually out there yet and this could all still go terribly wrongโwell, itโs still been just really nice already. Thank you for supporting my writing.
Iโve landed on the release date being June 11th, which is, yes, rather soon, so letโs get to a bunch more information about it!
First, the cover! The most common reaction Iโve gotten from friends Iโve shown it to is โoh, itโs so different from your others!โ and this is true. I ended up not going with an illustrated cover because, well, in transparency, I couldnโt afford it lol. (Even though I had the whole scene pictured in my head of what I wouldโve done.) But in the end, Iโm so glad to have designed this one instead. I think it really helps give the vibe of the book; I like that it says contemporary romance instead of rom-com. (As much as I love, and I mean love, reading a true rom-com, I have never been entirely sure thatโs what I myself write.) I love that it immediately brings us to the Oregon Coast, as the setting is integral to this book. (Will I regret using a full-page photograph once every imperfectly-printed KDP paperback starts arriving at my door? Yes, yes I will, but Iโm not focusing on that right now) (I am, a little bit)
Next: ARCs. I will be sending out a small amount of digital ARCs (wonโt be able to do physical copies for this one). If youโre interested in receiving one, please fill out this form by May 8th. Iโll be choosing these randomly; sorry if I donโt select you!
Alsoโif you are one of the very kind people who reached out to me on Instagram about possibly helping me with the PTSD rep in this book, hold on before you fill out this form. I likely already have enough help for this specific task, but I was moved by how many of you offered to help, so Iโd like to send you ARCs (without expectation of feedback) in thanks. If you think this is you and you donโt hear from me by next week, send me another DM.
Speaking of PTSD, though, before I go any further, hereโs a list of content warnings for this one before you contemplate reading it at all. Some of these are perhaps a bit spoiler-y, so scroll past this next bit if you want to go in without knowing anything (a reading practice I often enjoy), but thereโs enough serious content in this one that I also want to be upfront about it:
- grief from recent death of a close friend
- PTSD (from a previous random act of violence), with triggers on page
- malicious property damage
- mentions of past cheating
- illness of a parent, but no parent dies on page (nor is any dog harmed)
- casual alcohol usage, on page sex, too much cursing (and em dashes and other typical Anita things)
(I do promise this is decidedly still an Anita book and so a decent amount of lightness is also present! At least there is one Iron and Wine reference that truly makes me laugh each time I re-read it.)
Okay, so if that all sounds okay to you, you can alsoโฆ
Pre-order! eBooks should be available to pre-order on most major platforms. Hereโs an Amazon link, and a link for other platforms (where Kobo is one of the major ones Iโm still waiting on, but it should be there soon). Heartwaves, for now anyway, will not be on KU.
If youโd like to pre-order a paperback, please fill out this form. Iโm hoping to have some swag to include with paperback pre-orders (a sticker and postcard, mayhaps), which I will hopefully figure out more concretely soon!
There will not be an audiobook for this one, unfortunately, at least for now/until someone offers to make one lol.
You should also now be able to request purchase/pre-order from your local library! This would make me exceedingly happy if you are kind enough to do so where you live.
Lastly: And if youโre too lazy for all that (respect), you can, of course, still add on Goodreads.
And on a totally different noteโ
Something Wild and Wonderful published in Germany with HarperCollins last month, under the translated title Wir Sind Wild und Wunderbar (We Are Wild and Wonderful). And just in case you missed its absolutely gorgeous cover, here you go:
Thank you so much to my German editor Monika Buchmeier for picking it up, and to translators Christopher Bischoff and Jana Korner for your labor and time spent with Ben and Alexei.
Speaking of Ben and Alexeiโyou might get to say hello to them again in Heartwaves. :)
Hope youโre all doing as well as you can be.
In solidarity,
anita
I requested it from my local library!!โค๏ธ
Did you say Iron & Wine reference?!?! Even more excited!
